Hi guys i recently bought a 3 series 330ci coupe that has full main dealer service history. The Inspection II service was done in September. I recently noticed that there was a slightly bigger gap between one of the rear tyres and wheel arch so my brother in law put it on his ramp. Turns out that one of the rear shocks is wearing but to my surprise he had trouble getting the wheels off. They had coroded and obviously had not been off the car in some time (all four were checked). Should they not have been taken off during an Inspection II service?

No, there's no need to take the wheels off to check the suspension/tyres and brakes..

I've watched my own inspection 2 being done and the wheels didn't come off at any point..

I am almost positive that it used to be part of the inspection 2 service on older BMW's, to strip down the rear brake assembly, and check the hand brake shoes, and adjust the hand brake lever accordingly.
I have just had my 328 in for an inspection 2 this month, and insisted that they strip them down, as they were not going to do it. This was at an independant, and I thought they were just cutting corners.
On the subject of garages/servicing, the indy I used, although recommended to me, I would NOT recommend to anyone, as their lack of knowledge, attention to detail, and care and consideration for my car was appalling. I see now why they were so cheap compared to the dealer. I guess you get what you pay for.

I had a recent inspection 2 and they stripped all the brakes down and gave them a good clean so it appears that it may be dependent on the garage as to how thorough they are. I took mine to a specialist independent. It may be a case of "if you don't ask you don't get" so i assume the previous owner didn't ask!
