I own a bmw 318ci and I am wanting to buy a reconditioned engine or get another engine from another 3 series. I have found this place called LK spares in harlow and was just wanting to know if they are legit and are what they say they are.

I can't find any reviews anywhere so was just intrigued, been stuffed around too many times and so hopefully these guys are the real deal

Yeh visited them yesterday, seem like a good place. Been quoted £500 for a 318 engine with 60000 on the clock. Not too bad, and they said they would fit it with a total price of around £1000 including a service.

And avneet, what was the warranty they offered you like? They have said to me it's 3 months and covers everything, so if anything goes wrong i can bring it straight back and they will fix it. Anything I should look for in particular in a second hand engine warranty?

The thing with warranties is on second hand engines are they cover the engine but not the cost of labour to fit and remove so there is always an element of risk. However saying that if they are going to fit your engine you know they won't want to do the work twice as you can just point the finger straight at them

ahh wicked well it looks as though I will be going with them. One last question though :P

The engine they are offering me is an e46 318 engine with 64000 on the clock. On it's own they will sell it to me for just over £500. Is that a fair enough price?

I haven't had my car for 2 and a half months now and I've been trying to earn enough money to get it back, so hopefully nightshift has paid off! haha

brilliant people, needed a driveshaft for mine so got the part number off realoem and gave them a call.

Turns out the part number on realoem was the original one, which had been changed. They managed to find the right one and sent it immediately, I had it the next day.

Top marks and would recommend them every time.

Yeh I was considering it, but my main problem with getting a bigger (& better lol) engine is the insurance prices. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm 21 and getting a half decent quote on a 318, any higher and it's unaffordable. I have an exhaust that looks and makes it sound like a 325. Once I get it up and running I'll get some pictures of it up, it's a beaut! So I can't wait to get all this sorted!

Well the head cracked. The previous owner screwed me over, and I guess it was my fault for not knowing my stuff and things to look for, but there ya go, valuable lesson learnt. I've spent nearly a grand on it already trying to fix the problem (new radiator, new thermostat, new water pump etc) so I could have just got a recond or second hand engine in the first place, but ah well.
