1997 BMW 323i Convertible. I am looking for an independant in SW Scotland (near Dumfries would be best) so that I can get a reasonably priced diagnostic done. I have a gear box problem! Anyone any ideas?

Don't know how far you want to travel, but if you would travel to Hexham in Northumberland, which is just down the M74, then onto the A69, you could give Autobahn a call 01434 607854 Speak to Steve or Robbie. They are two very knowledgeable guys, and will not charge you for unnecessary work, just what needs doing.

Thanks, but I was trying to keep it a bit closer to home. There must be someone in Dumfries and Galloway!

Just looking at this old post and I thought I might add that in the end, it wasn't the gearbox, it was the catalytic converter that had gone. A bunged up exhaust obviously upset all the electronics and gave the impression of a duff gearbox. Bought and fitted new front half of the exhaust and everything went back to normal!
