I assume you mean dampers?? The shock is the spring, the damper is the pnematic/hydraulic part that dampens the oscilations of the shocker/spring. Not wanting to sound like a anal goit by pointing that out but it is important in the rest of this reply.

I am informed that the dampers are made by Sachs and come with a lafe time warrenty. I am also told BMW dealers will not honour this but most Indies will. Not sure if its 100% true but worth looking into. I am sure some one else on here will know however? Warrenty covers parts only, not fitting/changing.

You will still need a reliable garage to do the work :? If you have a box of spanners its a real easy job tho, 4 hours all in both sides.

Thanks, can anyone else shed any light on this as to wether it is true or not, is this tru with the dampers that will be fitted to my car. It had all the AC schnitzer mods installed when new, so it has been lowered quite allot.

I have also been wondering if the garage were right witrh the mot fail, as it had been lowered so much, with sports suspention could this have caused them to make a mistake and fail the suspention when in fact it is fine?

Still could do with a trusted indy in the area maybee they could shed some light on the issue, i have found one un warwick through google called AUTOTech Warwick they specialise in German cars. Anyone had experiance of this garage.

Unlikely they would fail it unless it was faulty or they are scam artists. Dampers fail if they are loosing fluid, failing to provide resistance to latteral motion, or show signs of axial movement. Lowering them any ammount doesnt change those parrameters tbh.

You could always get them checked out by annother garage tho. Take it to a quick fit and ask them to have a look, they will look for free, tell them the handling on the front feels a bit loose lately but dont mention the MOT. They may try to rip you off too but your not going to pay them what ever they say so it doesnt matter. If they also find the same fault chances are it is worn.

Try Autohaus in Coventry. Seem to know what they are talking about, and did a good job on my 330d.
