hi i havea bmw e38 m sport 2001 its my pride and joy and when the auto box went we called a garage in the yellow pages to get it fixed so they came to collect it and told them to give me a price on the job three days later no price on the job so i called them and they said they have done it to the tune of £1875.00 as you can imagine i was gob smacked so i told them i am not paying that because they did not ask me all i got from the garage was if you dont pay up we will sell your car i could not beleave my ears so as you do you go to all the places like consummer direct and trading standards but all said the same you will have to pay then sue him i am so mad about this so i am letting you all know if you are getting repairs done GET IT IN WRITING PLEASE because we have learnt the hard way by losing our car we have six months to get it back but he has started storage charges now .I dont trust any garages now this garage advertises all over the country it is

    Where abouts in Hudds?

Pay the money but on the receipt right "paid under protest" or something similar IIRC and then you can go to citizens advice and tell them what has happened

Not nice. We, but not me personally, had a similar experience paid less in the end but no way near this amount. I think we should be identified moral wrong doings that garages commit - if its not against forum rules.

I do think some garages take their customers for runarounds and its not nice as not everyone is truly clued in businesswise or carwise.

I wouldn't say the law is on there side, as already mentioned by lodging complaints and using trading standards you can sometimes get something out of it.

So have you got your car back?

I had some similar $hite happened to me years ago.Basically in the snow i slid into the kerb in the sud doing about ten mph and you wouldn't believe how much damage it did.Got the car collected for repair asking for a quote and the next thing i knew was a massive bill so i said fook you then, keep the car knowing full well they would have to sell it as parts as i had the import docs for it.
As regards yours(and this is just me) but if the cars in an outside compound and you have spare keys to it i would go up there armed with a pair of bolt croppers and claim it back

What exactly is stopping you just taking it back? You should be able to process something through the small claims court.

Have you tried a different approach? I,ve met them and there is no way they'd be hanging onto my motor!!!
