I thought i d post something that i m sure all of us has experienced at one time or another,

Being relatively new to london, when i got my M3, i set about finding a decent garage, that i could put any work through....Decent indy or Stealer, i didnt mind, someone that over time could develop a relationship with and know that if any problems arose i would feel like i was getting a decent honest service.......its hard work i can tell you!

I think more than any car i ve had previously, the M cars need spot on servicing, oil maintenance, or your ll run into trouble......Having had an e46 previously and suffered oil leaks etc, i know to my cost about not keeping on top of these sorts of things.....

So i get the suspension 'knocking' fairly early on (month or so back), after some research i was sure i knew what was the problem, or at least narrowed it down!.......So i look around for some Dealers in my Area........

DEALERS- LUCKY BMW SPECIALISTS SE LONDON- he umms and arrrhs and isnt exactly sure, but decides that he thinks my diagnosis is correct, ok so we order up the parts, and are having a general chat, he asks about my other car, and decides to tell me that my other car is in fact 4.6litre and not 4.2 s/c.....and tells me he can do an oil service in my M3 for 90 odd quid (toooo cheap!) i ask him the oil he s using.....10w 40 mobil 1......i gave him a nifty for his time, and left! Specialist eh.....next!

DEALERS- M STYLE-using Mobil 1 instead of Castrol, and then denying it.....

GSF BMW SPECIALISTS-eventually i find a really this indy, and the boss mateen, was spot on, i sourced the parts and car seems good as gold......but they are a while away.....but couldnt recommend them enough, Topped up all the levels, valeted the car to a high standard.......

Car now needs an oil service, so i start ringing around! the Difference in prices is massive.....but they all follow the same schedule.....! labour and oil prices are mainly the difference......20quid for a litre of castrol! lol you must be having a laugh!

DEALER- BROWNS SE LONDON..... came to my car the other morning and oddly enough this Indy had left a card and leaflet under my wiper, fairly good timing i thought, rang and ask for pricing......'sir, i m just finishing a job card give me 5mins i ll call you back with a quote and scope of works'.......read my number back to me.....2 days later.....nothing lol.....now i dont care that he didnt call back....his loss....but dont f*cking leave leaflets under my wipers then.....

Final call was friday to Gilbetts BMW indy specialists, chap answers (the boss i think) i ask him about the service, 225 plus VAT (most expensive quote i d had) even main stealers were alot cheaper.....he explained that the oil service they offered included a more through check over.....talked about the oil......got the type/grade spot on....then tells me it need 7.5/8 litres for a change.....Does it i ask? oh yes sir thats what we always do......i ve changed enough oil in M3s to know that its 5.5/6litres tops......now this chap either wants to rack up my bill and charge for oil that isnt going to get used or he isnt qualified to service a shopping trolley......quizzed him and said i m concerned that as a BMW/M specialist your telling me your going to be putting an additonal 2 litres of oil into my car than it needs.....i told him to do his research and left it there......

gave up, cars booked in with Stephen James blackheath, at least i ll get the stamp, and they are giving me an E92 M3 for the day......

I realise i ve ranted and waffled on....but as i see it, theres a gap in the market for a decent honest knowledgeable dealer in SE london.....as the ones i ve tried dont know their arse from their elbow in the majority!

    thanks and sorry lol

There's one local to me ( I won't name and shame them), passing themselves off as BMW specialists. Took my old 320 to them as it was cutting out randomly and needed a new cat, seemed simple enough. They kept the car for a week and returned it with a gutted cat and new plugs - and it was still cutting out at random. For this privilege they were expecting £180. Which they didn't get.

    Hi,

I have used an independent a couple of times, based in Bexleyheath and I would recommend them myself.

Im a student and my car isnt all that but they gave it a good Inspection II and did quality repair work.

They let me see the repair work being done and showed me the issue in hand and also the parts being installed. The mechanic even said that he was not going to replace all of the rubber exhaust brackets as most of them were fine and so only got charged £5 instead of £40.

They're friendly, they did call me back after my initial e-mail on their site and they have people driving in BMW's from original M3's to the new 7 series. Throughout all of my experiences there have never been any umms or ahh's from them.

They are called BMWise and are on the Broadway in Bexleyheath (main high st). Small looking place from the outside but quality work carried out and thats clearly more important.

The name is BMWise. This is their website- not much to judge their quality but it gives you the basics.
