I could maybe understand converting a LHD to RHD, but not the over way round ?!?

I think for what it's worth, it'll be cheaper to just buy the LHD version !

don't do it. i put a left hand drive engine in a right hand drive car. it's much, much more than a simple part swap.

    sell car, buy another. simples.
I once owned the greatest BMW ever.

You may find that in some countries, the choice of cars is pretty limited.
My bro had to run a RHD 330d when he lived in Portugal as they didn't market it there and had loads of duties on importing cars into the country. He ran it on UK plates which is really frowned upon.

So why not have it registered as a *given country* plate, but keep it RHD?

    Just seems so expensive unnecessarily

Agreed, but Portugal for example will whack you with a huge registration tax and have the power to confiscate your car if not registered within a certain short time period. It was almost worth risking the car to not bother
