Peter Michaels have been taken over by Halfords, I received a letter in the post a couple of years ago. I think most of the mechanics are still working for them

Over a few years and a 523 e39 auto, Volvo V40 T4 followed by a 530d e39 auto I've had good experiences with A6 Towing Brackets, Burlington St, Off Bolton Rd, Chorley who, whilst not being BMW Specialists are very able mechanics and will tackle anything. For example they recently changed 6 injectors for me very successfully after I sourced the parts. They've done all sorts of jobs from brakes/discs to the injectors mentioned.

Another source of BMW knowledge in the Chorley area is Chorley Auto Volk who are basically German car specialists and have been trading in the area for about 30 years having recently moved to bigger premises at the bottom of Cowling Brow, they were previously in Hollinshead St near the town centre. They are always busy, knowledgable as I said but do refer electrics to an Auto Electrician GSF Electrical near B&Q who are very experienced and straightforward.

I've heard good and not so good things about Peter Michaels and North West BMW over the years so I guess its all down to personal experience.

I believe communication is the main thing and sometimes you can catch people at the wrong time and either not be able to explain properly or they are distracted by workload etc etc, timing is everything, if doing routine maintenance or problem avoidance work then time is on your side but if you've just been towed in from a breakdown then its a different ball game! Short and curlies comes to mind, this is when you really find out the service ethos of a servicing garage!

I believe Linwar in Southport is a top BMW indie and talking on the phone seems to bear this out with 40 years of experience of the marque, Southport is a 40 minute drive for me but am interested to see what benefits and results a crank case breather service and EGR valve cleanup will bring to the 530D. Ian at Linwar is an excellent communicator, when I mentioned swirl flap removal he said he did not carry out the work and had not seen any failures in his time so I was quite surprised at that.

Anyone from the local area Chorley, Preston etc got any further insights into local BMW professionals?
