Ok, so I go to get some tyres at a wheel shop. Turns out I have a cracked alloy. Fine, I have warranty, I'll call BMW and book my service at the same time. (BTW, I'm replacing for non RFTs)

    So, I call BMW.

BMW: Yes sir, we can look at the alloy when you bring the car down.
ME: Excellent. But my battery is also dead. Can you replace that under warranty? (fingers crossed) Car wouldn't start the other day due to the cold. Think it might be on its way out. Doesn't hold a charge. I tried to charge it over night.
BMW: depending on mileage and usage, don't see that as a problem.
**Ok, so I'm confused about the wording (mileage and usage)...but I say nothing**
BMW: if you bring it down, we can charge it over night and test it.
**So I'm thinking will my ICE upgrade void the warranty?**
ME: Ok, and how much for a service?
BMW: depends what one. what does the car say it needs?
    ME: Oil change, that's it!
    BMW: Microfilter?
    ME: Nope, just oil.
    BMW: £230 inclusive
ME: for an oil change!?! What if I take the car to another service centre?...Will it VOID my warranty?
BMW: YES, or they would have to be BMW approved and Vat registered and would not be able to turn the service indicator off. We have BMW trained mechanics and check the car all over to make sure its road worthy.
ME: (pretending I don't know better, I continue)...what if I supply my own oil, and you do the oil change?
BMW: you can do that, but we reserve the right to not use the oil if its not the correct one.
ME: so what is "the correct oil" that you WOULD allow?
BMW: 0W-30 Fully Synth Long Life 04. Castrol for instance.
ME: Ok, I'll supply oil. How much for the change?
BMW: £94 inclusive (of filter, sump washer, labour, service indicator reset and VAT)
ME: Thanks, book it in for Friday

So, now I call my oil supplier (OS). Good chaps. Got my oil from them last time.
ME: BMW say to get 0W-30 fully synth LL04
OS: That's typical. They say that as they are the only ones that can supply that oil.
    ME: Oh. nice scam
OS: yes they are notorious for doing things like that. this oil is perfectly fine for your car....Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL04
    ME: ok, how much?
OS: £76 for 8 ltrs delivered
    ME: done

So, I got the oil change down from 230, to 170 JUST by getting my own oil delivered. I should, under the OFT regulations, be able to have any Vat registered service centre do the oil change and remove the service indicator, most garages have the computers these days don't they? I just wont have a BMW stamp.

So, will it really void my warranty?
    - fitting NON RFT?
    - Installed ICE
    - Taking to my local garage for oil change?

In theory what you've said is right, but BMW being BMW won't look on it favorably if you've taken the car out of the dealer network and then bought it back for warranty work.

Not had BMW dishonour any of my warranty claims, I have non RFT's and electrical accessories.
I do have a full BMWSH, and provide my own oil the same as BMW use, never had a problem.

Nah, more embarassing than promising, I have a small sub which is the subject of much ridicule amongst my fellow mods.

I bought Mobil 1 ESP LL04 from Matt Lewis Motorsport, 01922 692424 as it was the cheapest at the time.
