    Good evening,
Phoning round for some oil change quotes in south London and getting wild variations in figures. Best so far is BMW Park Lane, Battersea £180 inc VAT. Are these guys good, in terms of looking after you and being reliable?

Had quotes from £220 to £250 from main dealers, some including micro-filter aswell.

I just wanna get the oil and filter done for my own piece of mind as after 2 weeks of owning I discover it's not had a change for 20K miles.

They will be using 0w/30 Castrol SLX btw.

I have bought parts from them in the past and their parts guys have been extremely friendly and helpful,However I don't have experience of what their services are like.

Went for it... took just over the hour including wash + vacuum. Said I didn't want vacuum (as I know some folk simply aren't as extremely careful as I am) and guess what, there's a scratch on the rear door alu trim which I am pretty sure wasn't there before, consistent with a vacuum hose. Only noticed when I got home. Plus there was an extra 8 miles on the clock! I shall be phoning them Monday to account for this. 8 miles in central London seems a bit of a long road test, unless they got the original figure wrong from the dash. I wish people I am paying would do things I ask - too many layers of communication in these dealers, at least 4 people involved in the transaction.

Still, this was the best Man Dealer price I could find and local too.

Happy to be told 'get a life' but I'm pretty cool with most things if i know about 'em first.

8 miles sounds like a piss take too me.

If you said no vac, they should not vac - Its your car at the end of the day.

    I would be demanding explanations!

    Cheers Wabby,

I'm basing the 8 miles on their own reading on the docket. They were probably giving a customer a lift back somewhere or getting some parts from the other branch. If so, when did they actually have time to do the oil change? Unless - and this is the only explanation possible - they drove the car to the other site for the oil change, which of course I would've gladly done myself.

Was told the odometer reading was taken from the key-fob when I arrived, which was saved to the key when I pressed the start button as I started my journey. I guess this probably accounts for it.

Thought no point mentioning the scuffed interior as I have no proof.

The service report indicated "scored" rear discs. They wouldn't be drawn as to whether a car should have left a main dealer as an approved vehicle in this state. I've covered 600 miles since owning for under 4 weeks.

I'll probably be looking for the more personal touch of an independent garage for my next non-warranty work.
