    Following a recent post reccomending kevin @BM Wizard in Oswestry i decided to get in touch and make the trip over from Leeds. I have been wanting the auto gearbox oil changed for some, having contacted a few local indys for a price i found that they were unsure about the parts needed and exact procedure.

    After speaking with Kev i was confident he knew exactly what he was doing so i got the car booked in. Along with changing the coolant, rear brakes and identifying a mystery noise i thought it would fill half a day making the trip over worthwhile.

    I dropped the car in one evening and Kev set about dropping the gearbox sump to allow the oil to drain overnight. Next day i arrived to find kev had worked late the previous evening to get the brakes and coolant done and was in the process of servicing the box with the Zf parts i'd supplied. He fit the new sump, prefilled the box and monitored the transmission temp using the diagnostic, then went through the exact procedure to refill the box with fluid till it reached the correct level. It was good to see someone taking time and care to get things right and the fact that he was happy for me to be there was reasurring.

    When done he ran a full diagnostic check, discovered my mystery noise to be a worn seal on lower end of turbos and advised on some other niggling issues. All in charge was £110 for what was approx 4 hours work. Well reccomended and well worth the trip

    Thanks BM wizard

    @bmwizard.
    .
    hi, I've heard so much conflicting info about the "sealed for life" issue -
    my 97 528i drives like a dream but at 135k miles, I think it is long
    overdue for an auto box oil change . My Indy, who has always been
    very efficient says " if it aint broke dont fix it" - but I prefer pre damage
    maintenance as opposed to post damage maintenance.
    can you let me have your address & phone number -
    distance is really no object, I would rather travel and have the job done
    properly than have it cocked up on my doorstep.
    To be fair, I'm looking at having it done in the next few months as opposed to
    the next few days /weeks.

    I sourced the Kit at a place called Vanmatic. I got their number off the ZF website as a approved retailer and found them to be the cheapest for the genuine ZF parts. Incar motor factors in London are also a stockist but not on the ZF List.
    The Service kit with 9 litres (bought plenty, used 8) cost me £270 delivered. They are available on ebay for £199 with 7 litres although they are not genuine sumps but the oils the right stuff. I went with the genuine kit as BMW said they would honour my warranty as long as gen parts were used! To buy all the parts needed from BMW you are looking at approx £450 if you haggle
    Hope this helps.
