I took my car (2001 325ti) to an indy today to get it looked at - turns out that it needs a fair bit of work (full discs and pads, the rear ones being fairly urgent), new off side wishbone, 4 wheel alignment, new rear shocks (one has some misting?) as well as 2 rear tyres (expected) and the impending Inspection 1 and MOT.

Having made a few calls etc, Quarry Motors are the cheapest place to get the wishbone sorted out - I've never used them before and was wandering if anyone has and if so, what were they like?

I'm toying with the idea of getting a second hand one fitted to save the pennies, so that I can get as much work done as soon as possibe (excluding the tyres the quote I had was £1300!!!).

Cheers for ant help / comments / advise on offer.

I am sure I have used them for spares before and was happy with them. IIRC they are quite well regarded.

If they are who I am thinking off they should be fine

Used them to mail me a CAT, no problems.

With your wishbone issue, its not the sort of part you buy used, as that will also be from a used car and most probably worn itself........ You bushes or joints for the wishbone are going to be the issue unless its bent! Ideally its something you replace in pairs, as non OE items will vary and can make the car impossible to align correctly! (However, if you get something like Lemforded brand from Eurocarparts you'll be fine if you just buy the 1).

    Who the hells quoted £1300!!

Here's how I see your cars work (using eurocarparts, something half decent rather than the cheapest options they'd offer); you can visit their site or branch yourself to get accurate prices, I'm just going from experience with them in general!

    1 x wishbone from circa £75 (fitting circa £30)
Front discs & pads circa £90 (fitting circa £25)
Rear discs and pads circa £80 (fitting circa £25)
Rear Shocks (pair) circa £80 (fitting circa £50)
proper 4 wheel alignment circa £50
    2 tyres (roughly) £200 (pair)
    MOT £50

I calculate your all in costs (parts & labour) at roughly £755!

I've sacked off the idea of going down the 2nd hand route - I think it'll be more trouble than its worth. Was looking at using FEBI parts - having done some research I can knock a fair amount off by supplying the parts myself.

The biggest savings will be if I supply the wishbone myself - I can save over £200 that way!

The labour I've been quoted is typically higher than all of those (£60 an hour from my local specialist but better than BMW's £90 an hour). Although Quarry Motor's labour is much cheaper - but I wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing, hence the post.
