Hi, just want your thoughts on the best tint for my E36 if any. I've been contemplating it for ages, and I like the look of 35 all round, or maybe 50 at front and 35 on the rear three. To be honest i still havn't got a clue so all suggestions would be most helpful...

The one thing I will say is don't go too dark on the front as the police are getting really hot on it, also there's been rumblings about it being a MOT item in the future, I know the vehicle inspectorate will have you for it and give you a prohibition notice

Ronnie is bang on the button...

I am even considering taking my tints out completely if I get caught once the car is back out on the road.

I think a manufacturer should bring out replacement glass that changes with the amount of light... like they use on sunglasses. That way you'll get the protection when the sun is shining in your face when pulling out of a junction but your vision won't be impaired in the slightest at night.

I honestly believe that good quality tints do not cause a safety issue on a night time anyway.

The collar and ties know best and I suppose they've got to keep coming up with ludicrus ideas to keep themselves in their overpaid jobs

    That would be ace...

I do window tint for a living and if anyone could design a window film that would do this then they would be a very rich man !!

Just for the record, the front windows with tint must allow at least 75% of light through them and should you get stopped by the Police and they carry a light meter and the test fails they will give you the option of removing the tint there and then or they can impound the car. On the back and rear you can go to limo tint if you want but the fronts is a completely different story, all came about after a court case on a RTA at night because the drivers front windows were heavily tinted and he failed to notice the oncoming traffic when pulling out of a junction. Unfortunately a death occured due to this very factor hence why the Police and VOSA are particularly hot on the topic.

mtec b is bang on, i got pulled 2 weeks ago and the traffic copper that stopped me had the equipment, £30 on the spot fine and "advised " to remove tints as soon as, if caught a 2nd time, will mean car is impounded and dangerous driving charges being faced, obviously i done so, although he did mention that his car is the only one with a "timtman" on board in the whole of anglia, lucky me i guess!!!

S1rsteve - unlucky on that one! - I find the Police in Anglia particulary hot on motoring issues - they show no mercy!!! - just wait and see the more cars they pull over with tints and the more fines they issue the more "tintman" meters become available.
