I'm having a go at installing a TomTom Go into my E36 dash. I have mounted the LCD with epoxy resin and sprayed it with plasticoat black spray so far.

Is it at an angle where it is clearly visible AND you don't have to shift your attention from the road?

Probably not as on top of the dash you could see changing road conditions through peripheral vision

Yeah, good point actually but it is quite visible. You do need to mount the screen slightly tilted though so as to see it clearly, like looking at any other LCD from an angle. If you have an Apple iPhone or simular place it in this position in the car while sitting in the drivers seat and you will know better how to mount it.
I did fit this before so know it is ok to do although I used a glue gun and not resin and the heater matrix behind the console melted it so it all caved in! LOL!

You need to use the extension antenna cable and mont it high inside the dash or behind the glove box unless you like waiting a week to get a satellite signal.

One thing that is odd on my BMW is that the fag lighter is always live even with the ignition off. This is ok but will kill the satnav battery quicker. I don't want to fit a second button to remove the power so have decided to rewire the fag lighter socket to be switched. Anyway I will post the finished pictures soon.

LOL! Actually the comm port on this is shagged so I never could update it anyway. I have left out the hard diskto easily disconnect it. I'm going to get a 'ZIF to IDE' adapter and connect it to my P.C and update it that way.
Removing the unit from the car is a doddle as it is only a push fit.
I have finished it now and include the pictures. tomorrow I will upload a pic of it installed.
