I have just bought a new car which I am trying to return to new.
On the boot there was some tape residue and the owner tried to remove this with some WD40 and a cloth.
Sadly it appears that he has rubbed to hard, as whilst all the residue is now gone, you can see an outline where the tape used to run.
Its a black car, and where the tape used to be it has dullened / faded so that it appears slightly grey.
I have used some T Cut which has got out most of the fading, but it still looks noticable and my fear is that I rub too much.
How do I know if the 'dulling' is the top layer that needs polishing, or the white paint underneath showing through?
Can you rub right through black paint with a cloth, or is it likley to just damage the top clear coat?
Any tips would be useful!
