    I am finally giving up my budget angle grinder type of polisher to a family member. Can't remember the make but its a bit like those silverline 180mm type ones. I don't like it due to a complete lack of speed control, very noisy so pisses off the neighbours and its not the best of units to handle.

    Since I have been making do with an electric 240V halfords style posliher, which has served well but its just far to basic for my needs.

    Those in the know, can you please advise on which of the following units I should go for? (I have emailed cleanyourcar.com a few times but not had any response).

    I would prefer the following features from such a unit;

    - precise and exceptional speed control options to avoid spinning too fast and provide optimum control
    - quiet operation preferred (so I can start at 7am without bother neighbours)
    - ok to handle and work with confidently (unlike a huge full on angle grinder)
    - must be reliable!
    - must be able to take the usual application/finishing pads that are sold online via the like of cleanyourcar.com for such machines

    Meguairs G220 Dual Action (seems to be a popular unit, but I don't buy hyped up items if they don't live upto the hype)

    Chicago CP8210 (seems very different and not that bad price wise)

    Give Tim at clean your car a bell proper nice chap and he will be able to point you to the right machine, comes down to how comftable you are with a rotary and how much use its going to get really. The chicago (rotary machine) and the G220 (orbital machine) are very different machine, I have a G220 and it serves its purpose but I am still using my metabo rotary whcih has been a great machine.

    This is the new kid on the block and is what I might be changing to in the new year, not a cheap machine but has had some great reviews:

    The chicago has also had geat reviews and looks to be a good little polisher....

    i bought a g220 about 6 months ago and i can't fault it, great little machine. they were on special on www.polishedbliss.co.uk That deal is no longer running, although its worthwhile keeping an eye on there site as there monthly deals are great,

    Also if you ring up, or email, rich or clark are very helpful. and there advice is second to none. excellent all round service from them!!

    Out of desperation I have phoned Autobrite and cleanyourcar and ordered the following after a phone conversation for advice.

    Autobrite (many thanks for superb on the phone service and working me out a nice deal even though what I wanted was not offered as a kit on the website);

    1 x Kestral DA Polishing Machine Kit
    6 x 3M pads (2 compound, 2 polish, 2 finish)
    1 x citrus snow foam

    I won't say what price they did this at, but they did knock a respectable amount off and its being overnighted!

    Cleanyourcar

    Standard web order for 1 x Chicago CP8210 polisher

    This should most certainly ensure I am well equipped for doing my own cars and family and friends vehicles.

    I tried calling most of the morning but the answer phone just kept kicking in. (I like to order over the phone). They tend to have the most attractive prices on products in general compared to other retailers. Kept trying until about 2pm but then just went to Autobrite and ordered there.

    DSK, I can well believe the service you got from Mark at Autobrite. I popped in to see him last week, an hour later I left having spent a meagre £60 on bits, bobs and Christmas presents. Every time I see him, he always makes time to chat, a thoroughly nice bloke who seems more interested in customer service than ££££'s.

    Mark

    I can't recall the name of the person that I spoke to at Autobrite, he seemed to be on his own as he asked me to hold so he could double check on the stock that I wanted so probably Mark. Very pleasant phone manner, happy to answer many questions without sounding like he wanted to get you off the phone if you know what I mean and just a very warm attitude.

    Is the forum looking to reschedule another detailing session with Autobrite?

    I bought a porter cable from the link to detailing world and buy my stuff from tim over on cleanyourcar. Its a fab machine, although the need for a 110v tx is a pain, but after lobbing the woefully short cable in the bin and making my own up, its a lot nicer to use!
    It opens up a whole world of interesting stuff i never knew about...

    It was Mark at autobrite who served me in the first instance. Just been on the phone to him, as I never worked with 3M pads and the polishing ones I have are stated to have a light cutting action. Not wanting to mess up, I just gave him a call and asked for advice as to whcih products to use with the pads he gave me. Exceptional chap in terms of being pateint and giving straight talking, genuine advice.
