    Day 1

This Ferrari 550 maranello is one of my brothers cars from his prestigious car club/track day business

My brother had searched the country looking for a 550 and after viewing about ten, he found this one. On arrival the Ferrari looked pretty mint.

    On arrival.

The detail took place at my premises at Paulerspury Northants in December last year, just a few days after Christmas in fact. My brother was down for the Christmas period and wanted the 550 sorting out before retuning home, he told me he had an interesting drive down as the roads were very icy when he left from up north.

Not exactly the best weather to be driving a Ferrari in.

I never took any pictures of the wash process as it was absolutely freezing outside and I just wanted to crack on and get through the day. The Ferrari was snow foamed with clean your car snow foam and megs hyper wash and left for approx 10 mins while I attended to the wheels.

Wheels were cleaned with A/S smart wheels EZ brush for inners and SV brush for the faces. The 550 was then given a thorough rinsing before being foamed again, I sprayed the door shuts, boot shut, fuel cap etc with G101 and agitated with SV brush. Engine was also cleaned with G101 and agitated with various brushes before being rinsed at low pressure. Wheels arches were cleaned with megs super degreaser and agitated with vikan brush. After another rinsing I washed the car with megs hyper was via the 2bm with a sonus lambs wool mitt. Another rinse down and then I moved inside out of the cold and clayed the paint with sonus green and megs last touch for lube, paintwork was squeaky clean hardly any contamination. Back out into the cold for a final rinse I then dried the car down with a miracle towel, last touch and leaf blower.

I then had a well earned cup of tea and warmed my hands under the halogen lights.

Next I taped the car up ready for power polishing.

Paintwork was the inspected and paint depth readings were taken, which revealed the paint was original all round and nice and healthy.

The paintwork was in outstanding condition it was actually quite hard to get a picture of the defects a real credit to the previous owner. After a bit of playing about with pad and polish combos I settled on a megs softbuff polishing pad and menz po106 FA which worked perfectly.

    General swirls

    After

The defects were coming out very easily and after all the correction work was done I grabbed a quick bite to eat, turkey sandwiches obviously

There was a couple of little scratches that needed a slightly more aggressive approach to remove, I used menz PO106 FA on a megs cutting pad.

    After

    Before

    After

As I had made good time I decided to crack on and refine the paint with 3M ultrfina (dark blue top) on a 3M blue waffle pad. I was then considering calling it a day but in the end decided to carry on and get the engine detailed and the wheels sealed so I had less to do the following day:thumb:

Engine was dressed with megs all season dressing.

Wheels were sealed with poorboys wheel sealant.

    After.

    Exhausts were cleaned with autosol.

    After

With the majority of the work done it was now 8 o’clock so I decided to call it a day and head home for a well earned beer

    11 hours so far.

    Day 2

First job of the day was to detail the interior which was pretty clean to be fair, just a general wipe down and tidy up. Leather was cleaned and conditioned with lexol, windows cleaned with megs NXT, water repellent to the exterior windows.

    Before

    After

Next up was SV cleaner fluid which was applied and left while I had a cup of tea:p

And then removed with a plush micro fibre towel.

Sv B.O.S was then applied with a german applicator and left to cure for an hour before being removed, again with a plush micro fibre towel.

    Afters in the winter sunshine.

    18 hours work in total.

Thanks for taking the time to look….

It's great the way you can get the paint surface so pure and swirl free, amazing.
Also I like the way the pile of the carpet is shown in the way it has been hoovered not unlike the stripe on a nice lawn.
    Awesome work
