Another day another dollar and another rock hard BMW, this Z4 was in for a full correction and the removal of bird etching which was plastered all over the front area of the car with the bonnet being the worse affected.
After the usual wash procedure the car was rolled inside de tarred with A/S tardis and clayed with Megs mild and Megs LT for lube, paint readings were then taken which revealed good healthy levels of paint.
As you can see was not a pretty sight I masked of a corner of the bonnet for a test area.
I began with a Megs polishing pad 3M FC+ and a blob of 3M Ultrfina and after 2 passes there was little difference the paint was just laughing at me, so I stepped up to a Megs cutting pad and the same polish combo and after 3 further passes these were the results.
A big improvement but clearly there are still etching marks visible, the paint was like granite and it was proving to be very slow going. After a bit of head scratching and the eyeing up of the dreaded wool pad I came across these orange 3M pads which I have had for ages but never used as they are rock hard and looked very aggressive, so just the job then
With the same polish combo again I wound the revs down to 1500 and with slow passes and medium pressure we had this.
Getting there now but with a closer look they were still just visible.
So another pass was needed to achieve this.
The aggressive pad had inflicted some light buffer trails.
These were removed with Menz 203S on a 3M blue waffle pad and after the best part of 3 hours I was happy enough.
General defects around the rest of the car looked like this.
The rest of the car was corrected with Megs polishing and cutting pad in some areas with multiple hits, plastics were corrected with a LC yellow spot pad and Menz IP.
Paintwork was then refined with Menz 203S on a 3M blue waffle pad and Julian detailed the interior, windows, tail pipes, tyres etc. The wheels were badly corroded and pitted on the inners and were going to need refurbishing so no sealant was applied. Paintwork was then wiped down with IPA and cleansed with Dodo LPL and waxed with supernatural.
And a few pics of one of my regular customer most recent toy that we had in for a wax top up last week.
Thanks for looking.
