A quick question, what do you use to get the swirls out of the rear lights? machine polisher and glass polish?

Sorry to hijack, but I use a finishing spot pad on a DA with a very light cutting polish... Nearly always gets me a 100% correction, just be careful not to build up too much heat as the lights will warp quite easily if hot...

Thanks Sam, I used a spot pad machine polish on the lenses.

Cheers mate, you do get a sense of achievement when you stand back and look at the finished results

It's getting to that time of year, and i'm dropping the hints for the missus. I'm a keen detailer, and have been for years. Glad there's a name for it now, the wife thinks i'm weird for enjoying cleaning cars, but nothing beats the sense of achievement from seeing the results of your hard work. Anyway, without a proper polisher and pads its nigh on impossible to remove the swirl marks in the paintwork on my BMW.

What polisher, pads, and polish etc do you recommend for a starter pack for BMW paintwork, in particular? Primarily for my car, but my brother in law has a black 7 series which is in need of some TLC, and i'd like to give that a go aswell.

Even better if you could sort something out via your shop

    Thanks,

    Marc
Thanks Marc, just been keeping busy mate and not had much time for write ups etc.

I would advise using Menzerna pads and compound/polishes. They have a great range of polishes and they work very well in conjunction with a dual action machine. As you know BMW paintwork is brick hard so you really need to work the polish for a long time to get the desired results, power gloss is there most aggressive and is what I actually used on this M3. This compound is very aggressive compound even when used on a dual action machine and I wouldn't advise you going this aggressive without a paint gauge to hand. A good starting point would be Menz RD3.02 on a Menz cutting pad, and then Menz 85RE on a menz polishing pad to refine the finish and leave a super high gloss.

As for a dual action machine I currently use a Meguairs G220, but these are quite pricey to be honest. The DAS-6 dual action polisher has had some good reviews, I've not had first hand experience of one myself. But the machine has had good feed back over on DW, and is a bit cheaper than the Megs machine.

    Hope that helps Marc

Will PM you in a minute mate, but to get an idea this E46 was done over 3 days and took around 30 hours.

Hi, I'm close to MK and would be very interested in your work. I have an E46 in pretty good condition, swirl marks on body and the odd chip and a scratch. Do you do different levels of service (i.e just bodywork touch up/to full works) and what could you quote me?

Also, I have no idea how long this thing takes, would I have to book the car in for a few days etc?

    Thanks.
