I am about to purchase a BMW 320 (2.2) 2003 petrol model and wondered whether anyone had any real life 'fuel consumption' rates for normal driving, not a lot of motorway.

Also is there anything I should watch for if buying the Auto version rather than Manual? Do they perform just as well?

    Thanks.

I currently have a 520d SE and the computer states 39.6 mpg for normal use and it hits close to 44 for motorway driving.

Aw come on you can't tell me you are buying a "new" car to save money anyway lol

    P.S.
    A manual would probably get about 22 / 23

Might be something in here to help

17 mpg? Surely that's less than the 325 or even 330?

    I have a manual 2.2 320 i 2002, i get 27 mpg average around town and around 32 on a long run.
Although i wish i had an auto half of the time as the clutch and gearchange in general is poor in the lower gears and pulling away .

Are you saying that I would get better economy in choosing a petrol auto than petrol manual?

    manuals are more frugal...

auto verts are the worst of them all for MPG...

i get 25-30 all day long urban in a 330 manual...
330i sport a big chunk of berlin...

With my 04 320 auto i get 20mpg round town and can get 35mpg out and about
before doing the engine reset tthing was getting 17 and 30 ,using auto mode now it does not hold onto the revs before changing gear as it did before ,
for me i love the auto move fun to drive than a straight auto or manual

    sent using motorola xoom
