    Hi All

I hope you don't mind me sharing this - I've posted on Detailing World and M3 Cutters bur thought you guys might like a look too......enjoy!

Well, the day finally came and I had a shedload of new products and kit as well as a little time to get to work. This is my first 'detail' as such. I have used clay before but never really knew the difference between polish and wax (I had an inkling lol) and have been reading up loads on here (DW) to get an idea of what to do and what with.

I still need some more kit such as a pressure washer and would like to first learn machine polishing and eventually wet sanding but that can wait for now. Most of the collection below:

The car is a BMW E46 M3 SMG in titanium silver with OEM polished alloys. Mods include AC Schnitzer coilovers, exhaust, pedals, strut brace and handbrake lever, gloss black grill, side vents and bonnet vent.

I don't have a decent camera so all pics were taken on the iphone.

I started the detail a couple of days ago, it was a bit nippy but hey ho...

A few before pics of the car.

I'm sure you'll agree - pretty much covered in crap! First job was to get the bilberry on the wheels. Needed a couple of goes to get them clean - Vikan came in handy on these wheels!

Now, at this point, my snowfoam hadn't been delivered and as time waits for no man, I got cracking with some megs APC and a foam sprayer.

    [IMG]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y187/Horico/935e2e37.jpg[/IMG

Followed by a wash using the 2BM, CG+W and megs wash mit.

    After a wash...

    Dried with CG Woolly Mammoth

    My snow foam arrived!!

Rinsed again before getting the clay out. Sonus ultra fine and dod juice lube

The car seemed to be quite smooth anyway - the previous owner said that he clayed it twice a year and I believe him. Below is a walkaround at this stage...click to view the video.

Foamed and rinsed again to leave this...

Now, at the end of day 1 (I had to go to work for 5pm....this was the temperature...

The idea was that I would use my other car to drive to work, leaving the M3 clean on the drive so I could go back to it and continue. Undfortunately, the other car decided to be mardy and didn't start!! I didn't have time to fix it so had to use the BMW for work, driving on lovely damp salty roads!

I then got more time to continue with the car this morning. Due to the miles done, I had to get it cleaned again!

    A little warmer..

    Frozen snow foam

    After thawing it out...

    More APC

    Leaving this

Iron X applied - first time using - god it stinks!

Rinsed again and ready for some hand polishing. I had read about a few polishes and saw a lot of recommendations for P1 for use by hand so after a little test area...

    Slight scratches

    Gone!

I don't have anywhere indoors to check for swirls etc but I know they're there - I spotted some under some garage lights at work but here's a 50/50. I know P1 will be doing it's thing but for my first 50/50 it's a bit rubbish!!

    Buffed

    Before

    After

    50/50 on boot lip

    Headlight before / after

Left with this, sorry about the poor photo.

    Next up was Prima Amigo

Followed up by some Colinite 476

Not great but better in the flesh

    Bucket shot - orange peel!!

    Windows cleaned using Rain-x

CG wheel guard applied and left to dry

    Tyres shines with Megs Endurance

    Exterior completed

Time was running out fast as it was getting dark so a quick spruce of the leather using megs gold class leather cleaner, APC on the pedals and dash wipes for the plastics.

I hope you enjoyed the reading and if anyone has any comments, I really would welcome them as I am totally new to this amount of 'detail'. The things on my list to do next are the exhausts, the engine bay (I did clean it but ran out of time to do it properly) and the arches - again time limitations meant the wheels didn't come off this time.

    Thanks

    Matt

Great effort and not good when intervention plays its card. I hate having to drive my car in crap conditions.
One point I would like to make though - why on earth haven't you got a better camera. I have something similar to this:

Fujifilm FinePix S2950 / S2990 : Read reviews and compare prices at Ciao.co.uk

It does an amazing job and is really easy to use.
    Keep up the hard work.

I absolutely agree - I need a better camera. SWMBO got one for xmas but we don't live together yet but I'll be asking to borrow it for next time as it's a 12MP bad boy....

Thanks for the comments guys - next jobs will be engine bay and then the wheels and arches fully sorted. Also the b+q air pipe mod when I get 5 mins...

Cracking job mate, car is gorgeous! A great transformation... One thing I did notice tho, it might be worth taking out the LED brake light in the boot and getting some APC in there! ;-) lol....

    Well done.
If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!

    Cheers!

Yep! I noticed it too - annoyed me I didn't have time to do it on the day but I'll get it cleaned up over the next few days. I've got some piping for the air box mod to install too so will have a bit of tinker time..
