Don't even go there with the LED theory Kev....they look like 'gas burners' and are not bright at all....been there, done that sort of thing . The inverters (or ballasts as you call them) have problems if you don't waterproof them from moisture, hence why they overheat and short out due to water ingress. The old connectors on them were not that great either. Now the Gen V version of CCFL's have inverters that are completly water tight and are safer than the Gen 1's, which I fitted to my car a few years ago. Although, I did change to better inverters a couple of years back .

Ah i see, i was just looking at it from a safety point of view but if you say the new ones are much better then they must be decent.

Where did you get yours from? I was looking at umnitza's range before but they seem to have the problem we are discussing according to another forum!

This is what they look like when fitted.

Can you measure top to bottom of each side of your headlamp lens first? I will measure the rings and make sure they don't overlap because the facelift lamps are a little smaller.

the e46 compact had clips on the lenses. God know why, the bas*&rds took ages to get apart. I don't know what the black goo is that they use, but if I used it to glue my car to the garage, nobody would ever drive it again

Cool, I've got the same type of headlights and was wondering if they were just clips on top - saved me a job taking them out just to find out.

This isn't my car, it's how my car see's itself in it's own head

That's because the guy used a cheap quality kit. A decent kit like in the pic above will have sealed inverters. I've had mine in for 3 years.
