My e46 328ci came with some rear arch rust (replaced panel) as well as slight bubbling on a front arch. So it went into the body shop and I parted with £400 cash for these to be sorted as well as the front bumper resprayed.

Now about 5 months down the line the rear rust is breaking through and the front arch has bubbled up even worse!!

I know it will come back but this soon??

    Cheers - Ad

Take it back to the bodyshop. 5 months just shows they didn't do it properly.

a place in Bidford. However I didn't get a receipt (it was 6 months ago actually looking at it, although still) - cash job, but I'll be going back and having words!

What should they have done to prevent the rust for a while?

prolly didn't or were they told to? to remove and treat and reseal the inner anti gravel sealant coating of the inner wheel arches which starts the outer paint corroding proccess in the first place when it becomes compromised, it allows moisture to get underneath and bubble the paint or rots from under the sealant to the outside paint which is so common on the E46..

ide guess they treated and painted what they could see on the outside and ignored what was going on out of sight or behind an arch liner (on the front at least)..

is your car arch rolled by any chance? cos when the above happens ya well and trully stuffed with rolled arches, and ya just a bystander as nature eats ya arches away, cos ya cannot get to the back of the arch lips anymore to correct the damage and or corrosion.....

Yep. E46 front wings are a pointless thing to repair. The rear arches were prob just scuffed out and repainted. Unless you cut rust out and replace the panel it will ALWAYS come back.
