On a vert it got to be a subtle lip spoiler or no spoiler at all. Anything bigger than a lip doesn't work on a vert imo

I'd go for the lip spoiler. I bought one a few months back but the saloon one was delivered by mistake, I ended up just sending it back. But there's plenty on eBay and a lot of them offer to paint them as well.

I have a lip spoiler on my convertible looks much better than standard imho and not too over the top. I've seen a few convertibles with the m3 boot spoiler and they just dont look right.
Each to their own though i suppose.

I agree with the general opinion here; either a lip spoiler or just a lip to keep the lines clean.

I eventually went for the lip spoiler as I feel it gives a more aggressive appearance at the rear.

If it helps, here's mine before and after:
(After shot is rubbish, will try to take one this weekend with the roof down for comparrison)
