    As title really.
I'm looking for a very good bodyshop in Hampshire for some future work I might need. I know you get what you pay for but there is a line and I think places tend to cross it.
I'm looking for information on any places that have been used before, good or bad (to rule some out) and also if these places mind you doing some of the prep yourself.
I know some bodyshops can get funny with people doing their own prep work, which is fair enough but I'm no muppet and this is the area that will bring the costs down.

    Any help/experience much appreciated

I asked did you want it in the Southampton area cos you are IN Southampton. Hampshire is a BIG county. Farnborough is north, Portsmouth south.

I don't want to limit the question to just Southampton, I'm prepared to travel to places within reason hence stating Hampshire. It weeds out responses that will be irrelevant to me but it's broad enough for replies like 'They're not in Southampton but I know this great place in *insert somewhere just outside Southampton*'

I'm aware of the size of Hampshire and the counties and districts within.

Anyway, enough of Geography for the Insane, if anyone could reccomend some places they've used or know to do good work, please let me know

Well, I got my bootlid lip spoiler cropped ready for fitting of my Alpina boot spoiler last week, and the paint came off with the cropped ends. I had an indicident with a wall falling on my bootlid before, so had the lid and spoiler replaced/repaired by an ' Approved BMW bodywork repair center ' by Mill Lane Coachworks, Aldershot, Hampshire. The garage that cropped the lip spoiler ends said the paint used to respray the bootlid was a water based paint, cos bodyshops aren't allowed to use cellulose based paints anymore, so, even tho the repair was done by a BMW approved shop, it wasn't that good. Under the boot badge, there was a bit of bubbling coming up which they didnt even bother to sand down or anything either prior to spraying.

You'll have to find a place that does, if they can, use cellulose based paints so it can adhere properly to the body. On my bootlid, I can see the original layer of aint where the new paint has been lifted off!!

There IS a bodyshop I have used 3 times now who are very good, but a bit pricey, but their work IS very good. It's called Perfect Paint, Vulcan Industrial Estate, Sandhurst, Berkshire. It's only 10 mins away from the M3/J4. Also, there are RA Bodywork Repairs and also Sandhurst Bodyworks, same road/ind. estate.

Perfect charged me 150 to paint my whole front bumper with an Alpina front slitter attached, 200 for a pair of Hamann side skirts, and 125 for the Alpina boot spoiler. All 3 jobs were very good.

RA charged me 60 for doing the boot lip spoiler.

Sandhurst body myself and other members of my family have used several times, all with good results. You just have to tell the main guy you want to pay cash for a cheaper sale. nudge nudge.
