IIRC this can be done successfully but what happens if you want to get in the car and your battery has died? You'll be locked out

Ronnie it's a saloon... if the battery was dead then yes he can get into the boot but if the battery is flat then the central locking won't operate the other doors etc and the battery is under the bonnet in the 4 cylinder cars

Oh yeah, you can't even get through the seats as there is a metal firewall

    It's a Coupe

And some 4 pots the battery is in the front IIRC

Also if the battery goes flat on a e36 you just remove the rear number plate light and connect jump leads to the plugs for the bulb, gives it enough power to operate the locks ........

so what year door bezles would i have to order/ get hold of.
the battery and boot light has sold me on the idea of delocking the doors. mainly i want to delock the doors due to local yobs thinking they can enter my car with a screwdriver.

they still will be able to mate.. its only a plastic trim which if you dont care if it breaks is very easy to remove, that aside they dont go through the lock barrel anyway. i wont post on a public forum how its done.
changing the trim is very easy, i have a special tool to do it but all you need is an old coat hanger or similar gauge piece of wire bent at 90 degrees at the end then theres a little tab that you push to release the trim and pull to tighten it.
