You should be able to cut the bends from your tail pipes and still have enough pipe remaining to fix chrome tail pipes on to

I did not think you could get BMW chrome tips for a diesel....
I like the idea of cutting back the pipes and then fitting the petrol version tips on them (if they fit).

Whats the mechanical reason for the tips being turned down?

It just directs the emissions downwards rather than straight back, probably something to do with cars being stuck in traffic.

Maybe it's to try and prevent the black from coating the rear bumper

    Just guesstimating

Never thought of that. I forgot the diesels have turned down pipes

Unless you have a diesel particulate filter, then you will have the pipe turned down. Sorry, no chrome tips available from the dealer for turned down pipes . As Rym mentioned, they are turned down to soot the road .

I used Wonder Wheels on my exhaust tip to get it back to its new look.

The kit comes with a little brush and I guess its slightly acidic as after a bit of a session the black gunk all came off and it looks much improved.
Before you criticise a man walk a mile in his shoes, after that who cares? your a mile away and you have his shoes.
