I didn't either - I always, washed, chamiosed, waxed and sealed my car (I'm sure that's what the Turtle Wax Platinum stuff suggests).

This car cleaning business is a right minefield!

I need to clay my car, but I think I may wait until the spring, once the worse part of the weather is out of the way.

I recently got AG - Ultra Gloss Shine and wasnt overly impressed with the results as it left alot of white marks/powder.

I will admitt that due to weather i didnt get to go over the car as i would have liked to, and didnt get to wax it after either.

On my old car i found that one of the best hard wearing waxes was that W5 Nano Wax from LIDL, its in like a big toothpaste tube thing, its only €2.99 here whenever they have their car products in. My car had rain bubbles on it for months.

Cant comment on Megs wax as I have never used it but every 5 weeks does sound to be a bit of overkill, but all waxes and sealants do last different lenghts of time. I generally judge durability by the fact that if no water beading is visable when it rains then this is sign that the protection is begining to fail and its time to top up
Thanks Neil for all your professional opinions and tips, its really great for cleaning newbies, like me, to hear what you guys in the trade are using day to day.

If youre going to use Autoglym Extra gloss protection, put it on really thin. I mean be miserly with it. Get a sponge applicator (like the megs ones) little squirt of egp, then do one panel at a time.
Do the whole car then bugger off and do something else for about an hour. Then come back and buff it off, apply your wax of choice and marvel in the fact that your car now looks 100% better...

Youre right about the minefield, i'm a total novice, but looking at places like Detailing world and cleanyourcar.com is lethal, cos you end up with loads of potions and waxes!!

I bought some car-lack68 and i still cannot get over how good the car looked after using it. (cleaner/sealant then colnite on top)
