imo avoid any wheel cleaner with a high acid content as eventual will strip the laq and corrode the alloy.

Try some stuff called Bilberry Safe Wheel Cleaner is very good and can be dilluted down.

I have used the wonder wheels before, but as is nickd has said its quite acidic, so its only good for rare useage on very built up dirt and grime.

It does work rather well though has to be said

Bilberry can be used on baked on brake dust also......google it and have a read. i like using it and if its light brake dust just spray on and jet wash off.

Having said that i do use a wheel wax which helpd protect the alloy and forms a barrier so the brake dust comes off VERY EASILY

Fwiw, when I'm low on safe wheel cleaner, I siply use Turltlwax Professional (same as Wonder Wheels) and simply dilute it 1:1. Still does the same job but with less agression. You can also dilute it further so your money goes further too.

I also use Autoglym Alloy Wheel cleaner, not sure if its Acid based or not but its works well but IMO it can be costly to use compared to the above.

Meguiars HOT rims is actually quite decent.

I occasionally use wonder wheels now, but used it every week on my last two e46's, only because I was doing the best part of 1000 miles/wk. Have to say I didn't see any wheel damage as a result, but it is dilute Hydrochloric acid, the same as brickwork wash. Just drop some on concrete to see the effect.

I now use Very Cherry wheel cleaner.
