My car got a little bump this morning off a neighbour. The neighbour has asked if we can do this without going through insurance - not sure if I'm comfortable with that so was hoping for a ball park figure for the damage below. The damage appears to be onlyon the drivers door apart from a bit of scuff to the trim on the front wing.

    Thanks

If that was my car then the neighbour will have to expect to pay top dollar for repairs or go through their insurance company,

Allways a tricky situation when this happens so make sure they agree to repairs via a written, dated and signed letter.

Doesn't look too bad, but it's not going to be easy / cheap to repair it....

Make sure that you get everything in writing from the bodyshop and your neighbour to agree to the repairs - just in case it doesn't go to plan...

That's a new door skin and respray a panel either side for a proper job, not much change from £1,000. I would tell the neighbour that, get a quote from BMW he will soon change his mind about the insurance.

few years bak I got nudged in the rear quarter by an asian chick in a honda. Front of her car virtually self destructed, while mine showed nothing but a minor crease (which could mean serious damage, never take things at face value). Her husband rang and asked if we could avoid insurance. Told him ONLY if the repair was done by Manchesters main dealer. Quote was around 800 quid and still depended on if anything was found behind the bumper once it was dropped. Insuarance came into play after that shock to his system. The guy even went to see the bodyshop manager to see why it was so much, manager said 'If you want cheap repairs to cars, tell your wife to hit a daihatsu next time, its a BMW and its 800 quid'
2002 325 Compact Sport ti M-Tec---- A little thanks goes a long way

    Update -

I got three quotes over between Christmas and NY - One from an accident managment company, one from BMW and one from a smart repair place just becuase i drove past it - All of them said it was a replacement door (even the smart repair place)
Most expensive was £1600+ forthe accident management place, BMW came in at £1400ish and the SMART repair place was £800+

I took the two quote to the guy (not the Smart repair place) and he quickly chnaged his mind to leave the insurance out if it

It's currently in BMW getting a new door and spray either side of the panel.

Was pleasanty supprised that the BMW place was cheaper!

Always amuses me that people take out insurance as a back up in case of accidents.... have an accident.... don't want to use what you have just paid for !! I can see very very minor damage not going through, but any half wit could see this will cost. Glad to see it got sorted.

I was going to say similar, v expensive fix, if he was going to pay outside of insurance, I'd agree a figure up front and get the cash before repair. Remember its your car and you will be responsible for the bill if he decides not to pay. At that point, it would have been too late to go through insurance as your car will be fixed.

    Not relevant now though....
