Had some bird droppings on my bonnet for a couple of days and some nasty seagull muck on the roof as of yesterday (visit to the coast)... after quick wash and polish there is a ghost of the marks left on the paint... it's almost a matt finish.. very noticeable. Has this removed some lacquer off my wafer thin paintwork, or is this a stain that can be removed? Tried lots of polish but it wont disappear - even tried a fine scouring pad/bug remover but to no avail. Please tell me the paint isn't knackered by leaving it a day before cleaning. It was pretty heavy duty muck - needed the sponge left on to soak(!)

:o are you mad!? A scourer!? The dropping are very acidic and etch into the paint. Some severe machine polishing can remove them but leave it to the pros! If a bird shits on your car just wash it off but dont wipe it.with anything as theyre normally gritty and will scratch your paint!

It will need to be machined as the poop has etched the clear coat.

You did right with lettting a sponge soak the crap but a bit late I normally find SilverHook's maintenance spray to break down bird crap staright away then QD over it with a MF.

...it was a gentle non-stick one, but it didn't work - and no further damage was done. And yes, I am mad. 10 years of paintwork abuse in an old Saab and the bodywork always came up shining; one blob of crap on the BM and it's all over. Another trip to Halfords is on the cards for more product, I guess.

...QD and MF - translation please? Who can I get to machine it and redo the clear-coat? SE London, thanks.

QD - Quick detailer, any brand will do
    MF - microfibre cloths

Machining will be expensive, I can't recommend anyone in London

Have you tried leaving a hot sponge on it for 5mins then try going over it with SRP. If that doesn't work (and the etching is in a small area) you can flat the paint yourself and use a compound like g6 by hand then SRP over the top

You can get some decent hand polishing pads these days, I know sonus make some.. not going to get the same results as a machine polish though!

I got to be honest I'm surprised your paintwork has been so badly effected by leaving it for a couple of days! B*stard birds!!!!

My wing mirror had bird poop over it, washed it off after a day but it etched in so I had to flatten it and mop it. Clear coat in that area will be thinner than the rest of the mirror but its only a wing mirror..

    OP is your car black?
