    Hi all,

    I own a 320d 2006 M-Sport Saloon.

18 months ago, I took it to my local BMW body shop, to repaint the front bumper. It had taken a few scratches on the underside (by my missus) and generally had taken a batterring with all the motorway pounding that I had done.

Having previously used an independent body shop at half the cost, I wasn't impressed with the colour match and the durability, so bit the bullet and coughed up the dealers rates.

Upon completion, it was a great match (Le Mans Blue) and generally happy with the work.

This weekend I washed the car with a view to polishing and waxing, only to notice that in many area's of the front bumper, the lacquer is flaking severly.

I understand that my car is now out of warranty, but just 18 months ago, a BMW body shop did carry our the repair (at a very high price) and it now looks as though I did myself!

I have owned from new, so there no "duff" paintjobs or other factors that could cause this.

Where do you think I stand on this?

    Thanks

    Lee1

if you kept the receipts for the work they did ( i assume you did) go down and chance your arm. I don't know if BMW offer a period of warranty... or any warranty on paint... but always worth ago.

My personal view is they will not help you at all...

That's a really rubbish thing to hear, mate; especially on an '06 plate!!!

Personally, I would take it back to the body shop with the original receipt and demand they do something about it, but as for where you really stand on it...

I think that after 18 months they will just claim it is down to a lack of proper care, and how you wash it, etc.

Let us know how you get on!!

Cheers for the prompt response chaps!

I'll head down there later I think and see what they have to say for themselves.

Like many of you on here, I religously wash the car at least 2 times a month using sheepskin wash mits, microfibre drying towel and generally look after both our Bimmers very well..............

Shocked to see the lacquer coming off what is otherwise a good looking car paint wise. And is just 3.5 years old!

Here a piccy that shows it in the "scoop" of the bumper.

Too sunny out right now to get a decent focus, but you get the idea of how it look! It's blistering it seems all across the bumper.

Surely a paint repair carried out by BMW, would be covered by BMW paint warranties?, i am not sure what these are, but they should be stated in the owners handbook?

    Okey dokey!

The BMW bodyshop manager has suggested that as the repaint was 18 months ago and that there is a fair amount of "chippage," then I am to pay £150 + VAT to put it right.

He says that because of the pelting the front end has taken, that he would propose taking everything back, priming, painting and lacquering. This would cost £400, but because of the time lapse from last paint work, that feels that I should make a contribution.

He has also said that he would guarentee the repair for 2 years and give me a replacement car for the 3 days that he needs my car.

I'm not adverse to making a contribution, but is £150 + VAT reasonable? Bearing in mind I paid £500 or so last time around?

Said I'd call him back in the morning, so your comments and advice are eagerly awaited!!!!

    Cheers

    Lee
