I'm interested to understand what length forum members go to to when detailing their cars .........
for example I talked to a guy the other day who removed his rear wash/wipe units so he could get eh circel of dirt around cleaned properly and he belived the only way was to remove the unit and clean underneath it

I normally remove minor trim panels, grills, inserts and washerjets, and tape up everything else

Heres my old thread, wish the car would stay that way, I have to detail it again before the Gaydon show

Personal choice and time play a massive part.
It's great to go to those lengths, but bear in mind that if you do a few miles it will be time consuming to keep it that way.
I do 20k miles a year in mine, and if I am not careful I spend every Sunday afternoon cleaning and detailing, taking bits off, etc, but you can get to a stage where the enjoyment becomes a chore.
My recommendation is to do as much as you enjoy.
2013, Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, PDK, Sports Exhaust, Chrono, etc, etc

Couldn't have said it better myself, but I did get called saddist & and obsessive by dailydoggy if I recall

As mentioned, I do a fair few miles, and keeping it in good nick is a nightmare. It always looks amazing for a few weeks after detailing a car, but you will inevitably get small scratches and swirls after a while, mine even has a slight bit of hologramming at the moment, which is why I must detail it again before Gaydon.

If you really are determined to keep it looking spot on then go for it and remove bits and pieces, but for an every day car that does alot of miles I wouldn't bother.
