Although the BMW staff never mentioned the length of the warranty I believe it was 6 years until they revised it for all cars registered after 1st January 2004 to 12 years. Thankfully mine was registered in October 2004. It was thanks to a post on this forum that I saw mentioning the 12 years otherwise I probably wouldn't have gone back to BMW and had already been given a price of £200 from a bodyshop to repair it.
Hahaha thats natalie the young one... tidy... up the duff now though!
I got told that bmw changed from 6 years to 12 for cars made in january 04.. im out by 3 months.. meh! Anyway been told its the galv bubbling due to previous repair and metal has oxidised on it or some crap.. oh well...
Got my wing repaired and resprayed by BMW for free 4 weeks ago. The bodyshop did a great job bad news I then found that my numberplate light fitments had corroded away and have had to buy a new boot handle fitment to replace the lights. When I took the old one off there is corrosion behind it so I thought sod it I will try BMW again for a free repair. I sent the dealer photos yesterday and they have referred it to BMW and will get back to me in a few days. Might get my boot lid sprayed for free. Hell I may get one panel done at a time on a regular basis until the whole car is resprayed. They put the 12 year warranty in place for a reason they know they are rusting and are concerned about their reputation.
Just an update. Great thing this warranty I am going to have to replace the number plate light fitment and I bought a new one from dealer (fought them down to £65 inc vat) I am getting this sprayed by independent for £25.. The great news was that I discovered corrosion behind the number plate light fitment and thought sod it and sent BMW dealer photos and heard back today that they are going to replace the whole tailgate. Now I am looking for two replacement tailgate rear lights as I see there is sometimes water in mine. Can't have a new tailgate with crappy lights!
I would rather not have any rust and not having to be claiming on the warranty on the car but while its there and BMW are willing to take responsibility for the corrosion why not use it! I hope all forum members are aware that for all cars registered from 1st January 2004 onwards the corrosion warranty was increased from 6 years to 12 years. It obviously doesn't cover things like stone chips but if they can see that it is bubbling from under the paintwork get the dealer to take photos and send them to BMW and they should have an answer in around 5 working days.
