Just spotted bubbles of rust on my front wing wheel arch and checked with a bodywork specialist today who said this is a problem with BMW,s. Quite surprised to see this on a 6 year old car and there was nothing there 8 months ago when I bought it. I also wash it regularly. Specialist says whole wing will need to be done and section of arch repaired before spraying cost about £200. My last car was an Audi which had a 10 year guarantee on paintwork but I dont think BMW has this.

I think they do have an anti corrosion warranty but for it to be valid you have to get the bodywork checked out each year...

    Is your car silver?

Yes the car is silver and it has a full BMW service history through the local dealership. It was last serviced by them in October 2009 and is due again in 2000 miles.

Maybe they should do rust coloured cars and then it won't be so noticeable lol. I think I will get in touch with the dealership and maybe just put it in early for its Inspection 1 and see what they have to say about the paintwork the 2000 miles remaining would be up in about 2 months anyway.

Just a quick update BMW have agreed to repair the wheel arch and respray the wing under the Corrosion Warranty. The work is being undertake at the Audi Dealership which has the same owner as the BMW Dealership in Dundee. Have decided to kill two birds with one stone and booked the car in for its Inspection 1 which they are now doing for £193 which I thought was reasonable.

Bargain mate, great you got it sorted. It's actually the plastic wheel guards that rub on the inner wing. Water / salt etc then sits there and eats the metal from the inside out.
If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!

Great result and a reasonable Inspection 1 price to boot.

Out of curiosity what is the duration of the BMW anti corrosion warranty ?
