Hello everyone I purchased a 2004 E46 316ti Es about 3 weeks ago. When I picked the car up i had the option to have the rubbery compound on the inside door handles removed because it was all scratched and looked very tatty the garage had done a very good job it looks imaculate but what i didnt notice was that the gear gaiter surround where the electric window buttons are has the same nasty stuff on to. And that too has lots of scratches on and it upsets the rest of lovely interior. So I was wondering if any one has any idea on how I could strip it off I thought about a stanley knife blade and lightly scraping it off but i dont want to damage any of the shiny plastic underneath any help would be very much apprieciated thank you in advance.

why dont you take it out, clean it off the best you can and wrap it in vinyl
you can have any colour you want then and it will look brand new

Thank you very much for your advice sam1832 sounds like a good idea but i was hoping to keep it the same colour as the door handles. Because eventually id like to do the same to the centre console trim around the glove box and head unit surround would you happen know if accetone would remove it with out melting the whole surround.
