    Hi Bimmers,

i had a bump in my bmw compact it doesn't look too bad but the one guy i spoke to said that i would need a new bonnet. This guy is a body work 'specialist' but didn't look too professional and i had to met him in a car park so i'm not even sure if he's got a workshop!

Currently the bonnet doesn't open so i can't see that much but what the bodywork guy said was that it's not possible to get the grille back to it's original state...

I need to take it to get a quote but i work crazy hours and i just wanted a bit of advise if it's possible.

    cheers fellas

Nasty! I did something similar to mine.. not as bad like just cracked the front bumper and the bonnet was bent where the bit comes down inbetween the lights... I just had it bent out and the whole bonnet re-painted...

Its difficult to tell from the pics but you will need new grills, bonnet might be salvagable.. go to many bodyshops see what they say..

How did you do it? too fast?

Nah wasn't going fast at all just crawling really beam of light came across windscreen couldn't see a thing. Any way the grilles aren't a problem can pick them up easily... What the guy who looked at it meant was the housing bit around the grille i think.

How much was the respray? I'm currently trying to source one but there like rocking horse poo!!!

    You tried quarry motors?

I wouldnt know without looking so cant really offer much help in that way but if you see a few people and they say the same thing then a new bonnet it is.. heres the part number.. 41 61 7 016 417

If you go on here.. BMminiparts.. and fill in the form with that part number and they will give you a quote for a brand new one..

I assume all the metalwork behind it is ok coz if not then its going to be megabucks...

It cost me 300 cash to spray the front bumper and undedent and repaint the bonnet..

What was the bright light.. alian obduction?

I hope your windscreen wasn't as dirty as the car or no wonder the sun caused problems...

thats repairable all day long by a good bodyshop who know what they are doing.. grills and surrounds would obviously just be replaced though..

As Ben said go to as many local bodyshops as you can and get some quotes..

I've now got bonnet problem too...
My car has been 'modified' by the local scum on 4 occasions now, each unfortunately not bad enough for a insurance job.

I don't do a huge number of miles and car is often still for few days at at time, twice someone has lightly boshed into the rear bumper leaving big black gouges in the plastic from their number plate screws. Body shop said £300 to do bumper, so me start savin'.

About 2 months later a random guy came down our road and keyed about 15 cars, I got away with a bit to door and more to the wing, others had EVERY single panel keyed.
Body shop says £500 but only if do bumper and and wing/door at same time. Me continues saving. Told plod again, got a UV pen to mark my valubles and was only told (by PCSO) that they can't be on every street every night.

Few weeks later was parking up at work and saw something odd on bonnet, on closer inspection it looks like somebody's dragged a push bike over it.

So in about 5 months my car went from having near mint paintwork to looking like a shed, and looks like I've gotta raise hundreds and hundreds to remedy it!!! I woudn't have bothered with my bixenon if I'd known this was comin...

Anyway, to my point: how well did your respray match up to the other panels, are you metallic paint?
I'm guessing my local body shop would be after ~£1k to do my lot(bonnet, door, wing, r bumper), that sounds a lot, what say you???

£300 to respray a single bumper?!? you really need to find yourself a new bodyshop mate, thats ridiculously high!

I hit a dog a while back when it ran out infront of me and cracked my front bumper, my local bodyshop that I have all my work done at charged me £100 to remove, repair and respray.. and the job was perfect!

Thx for your reply, I guess the closest b/s isn't the cheapest...
The quote if I remember was about £70 for paint/materials and 5 to 6 hrs labour, worked out at £240+vat.
The guy was saying with metallic paint you have to firstly do whole panel and then also blend/cut the new paint across adjacent panels.
If could get the lot done for say £4-500 would be
