once you drop the number plates in, does it fit snugly without any rattles?

they look really nice...I've been wanting to do a cheap and cheerful mod to my car lately but couldnt think of anything..this is perfect and low profile

also is the front number plate holder slightly curved to match the bumber?

It does as long as you screw the ends down. For the back, use some silicone or 3M on the ends, as the screw holders are closer towards the centre

my surrounds didn't stay on long, decided the pressed aluminium plates looked better without surrounds!

mainly because the back surround wouldn't stick securely to my boot and the front had to be bent quite significantly to match the curve of the bumper

Yeah I was a bit surprised when I fitted mine. I drilled and enlarged the holes in the number plate surround so it matched with the holes in the number plate. The front didn't fit the curve of the bumper but with a little force it bends and is screwed in place with no problems! I think on my silver cabby which is de-badged it looks fantastic, just slightly different than other cars!
