hi guys, both of my front windows have scratches running vertically down them, they are too deep to polish out and have come to the conclusion that i will have to replace them as i am really anal about clean windows that are free of flaws.

does anyone have any experience with replacing and adjusting coupe windows or any other options that may be available to me.

i will also need to replace the felt/rubber weather strip as this seems to still have grit in it and i believe that that is where the scratches came from. does anyone know the part number for that as i have looked on realOEM.com and cannot tell which part it is.

is it worth getting the weather strip and fitting myself and 'breaking' the windows so as i can claim on my insurance and only be charged £60-£75 for them, i know that that is a bit naughty but insurance companies rip us off all the time.

any help is welcome, thanks guys.

I think most insurance comanies only cover windscreens under the glass excess, if you break your windows youll probably loose your no claims if you make a claim. Those strips with the felt on them are about £180 each! as they have the exciter wire for the a post airbags in them. How deep are the scratches?if they not too bad have you considered getting a quote from a bodyshop to sand them?

the scratches are deep enough so that when you run your finger nails over the window they get caught in them. i did buy a window scratch remover kit for a household drill but it did bugger all for the scratches and just sprayed the compound onto the paint and me

didnt realise the felt bits were that much. tried to clean them but still seams to make scratching noise.

think best bet is to get new windows eventually as i dont think that they are too expensive or try to get some from a scrappy.

any idea how hard they are to fit or is it something you leave to the professionals?

    cheers

Sorry never had the need to remove a drop glass on one cant help you there. I have door cards off of e46 coupes though and the door is pretty solid with not much access by the looks of it though. I'm sure some one who has removed a drop glass will shed some light on it.
