Guys, I'm having major problems removing the gear knob on my '02 E46 325 coupe. I have attempted several times to remove the bloody thing but it isn't budging.
I am pulling at the thing so hard I am scared of doing damage to the car or else of giving myself a coronary .

Is there some special technique to this process?

I don't think that there is a special method, just pull like.......Well Very hard. Got to be honest though, I could not for the love of god remove the knob on my 2001 e46 and gave up trying....... Part exchanged the car in the end.

P.S. Mind you don't smash your teeth in or poop yourself when you have another go

Not sure if that helps at all.

It will technically break it, but try twisting as hard as you can while pulling as hard as you can. These frequently come loose unwantedly. There is a notch cut into the metal rod coming up from the gearbox, and a piece of plastic inside the gear knob wedges into it. If you twist hard enough, you should be able to break it, and it should then come loose. It may sound mental, but if you have a big shifting spanner, try twisting it with that, should make it a lot easier. Let us know how you get on.
