A car will pass an MOT with xenons without self levellers and/or headlight washers. Cars with a manufactured from new with xenons must have self levellers and headlight washers, but a car will pass an MOT fine with aftermarket xenons or any xenons added at a later date to the car, providing that the beam pattern is within the requirements and the xenons are white and not bluey.

    Hi,
I had an e46 323ci. I got hold of some OE BMW xenon headlamps. They were a direct swap for the original ones and worked fine. 4 star head screws to remove and refit. Direct plug and play.

They threw up an error message on dash that the bulbs were out, but I bought a set of resistor leads from one of the aftermarket xenon kit suppliers, which cancelled the error message out. No need to code or anything.

However, there will be one plug terminal left after you have attached the headlamp, beam and sidelight, which I think is for the self leveller/headlamp wash system. I filled this terminal with silicone to seal it. If you get water into this terminal, it will short out the ballast/ignitor.

The xenons worked fine and transformed the look and drive of the car.

    Good luck!
