You'll need the car coded to suit. Otherwise it goes crazy trying to bulb check halogens and it finds a HID ballast on instead.
It can also end up flashing the lights, bulb errors etc, but once the car knows they are fitted, everything is fine.

Not a lot of garages do it, but most BMW specialists will be able.

Hopefully someone will confirm that it is a straight swap, you never know with model changes through the years.

That's only for Construction and Use regulations, which shouldn't be a problem (unless you are manufacturing a few at the weekend)

The MOT only covers a bare minimum, there are plenty of things that you could get though an MOT which would be illegal for driving.

MY old 330ci sailed through its MOT with aftermarket xenon lights with no self leveler. Another alternative to getting th lcm reflashed is the xenon wiring loom resistors which plug inbetween the ballast and the harness which make the lcm think it still has halogens.

OEM xenon will need levellers on each axle for correct operation.

That's a point - if the car is coded that Xenons are fitted, it'll realise the level sensor isn't fitted...
