Hi first off I would like to say congrats on a great forum this is my first post but it looks like a great resource for BMW owners.
My problem is this:
When driving I noticed a rattle that was coming from the boot. At first I thought it was where the spare wheel went as some things were kind of loose but I secured these and the rattle continued.
Then I thought it could be the hazard triangle that is in the boot lid so I removed this and took it for a drive again but every time I went over a bump it got the rattle again. It doesn't sound like the shocks which is what I thought it could of also been.
When the car was stationary I went out to the boot and tried to move the boot lid and there was a little bit of play in the lid. I couldn't move it more than a few mm but I did it quickly and repeated it. This recreated a similar sound.
I think i have found the problem in that the clasp or something is loose or has too much give on it but I am not sure if I can tighten it at all. I removed the plastic trim on the boot and looked at the piece of metal that is like a hoop and it is stationary. I can't move it at all.
When i looked at the part in the lid of the boot and pressed it in to simulate it being locked it could be moved slightly up and down. I guess this is causing the rattle.
Any ideas on how to solve this annoying rattle? The rest of the car is fine but with all the pot holes on our roads these days it makes my old 306 sound like a smooth ride! Hah.
Thanks in advance and once again a great forum.
