I'm totally fed up with my lights, the bulbs i was using gave a really good white look light but they didn't light up the road enough for my liking so i bought some phillips blue vision and some Halfords extreme's, which i can't actually see any difference between Anyway, these give a better light but now i seem to have gone back to a yellowish light compared to the original white light bulbs, seem to be going round in circles
So after pondering and trawling through the net i think the only answer is to go for HID's.
So....for you HID users out there...HELP....what do you have fitted and how good are they?
    Thanks in advance

You will never go back to halogens - I use 8000k in my lows, but have projector lights. Not sure how they go on e46 as are reflectors...

I was in the same position as you but Iw as put off HIDS by experiencing and seeing cheap and expensive kits that didn't perform or were such a pain to fit they just put me off. However, I spent several months researching HIDs and ended up going for the HIDS4U kits. All links are contained within the threads blow.

I was the same, even went to some stores that seemed to have exceptional quality kits etc but they refused to match the warranty and reputation of the HIDS4U.

I also went out in a few Supra's with HIDS, some shone the road well but the beam patterns were bad, others were just poor so I just held fire and kept investigating.

Trust me on this, get yourself a HIDS4U, 35w Pro Plus, 6000K kit (distinct blue tinge without sacrificing light output like higher colour temperatures). The discount codes mentioned in the links also work on the site (we used the 'ToyotaGT' one) over the phone when ordering the kit for my aunts M3. Also in the event that you need a replacement bulb, HIDS4U have the full service and can offer any component should you require so long term maintenance is also hassle free (despite the 2yr warranty, CE/E approval and lowest bulb failure rates!)

Glad to be of help. Also with the HIDS4U kit you will have no issues with quality, installation or beams patterns.

DSK has pretty much told you all you need to know. I'd also recommend a kit from where he got his from, some kits off eBay are awful. I was lucky that that kit from eBay that I got were pretty good.

As stated 6000k is the temperature to go for, pure, bright white light with a slight bluey tinge from distance. 8000k is noticeably blue and gives out less lumens and light, and performs considerably poorer on dark wet roads. If you want the factory look, then go for 4500k, these will look white but when driving there'll be a tinge of yellow - this temperature is the most powerful though giving out the most lumens.

I know you have an E46, but for a rough idea on installation, check out my E36 DIY for Hid conversion - http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...-how-to-t10732

Good luck and if you go ahead, don't forget to post before and after shots
