    I need to replace the number plates on my car because the front one looks a bit manky after I parked too close to a wall (read bumped very lightly) and the laminate top coat is starting to come away etc.

    The options I'm thinking about are;

    New plates with a BMW logo in the corner (but can't decide if manufacturer logo's are chavvy on plates).

    New plain plates to replace the existing.

    Or plain plates with a number plate surround like this;

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

    Thoughts and comments would be much appreciated to help me decide!

    The law is getting a bit strict on this and I'm not sure if you can still legally have emblems or messages other than the EU GB one. As for the number plate surrounds it's all down to personal taste, I bought some for mine but I did'nt like the rear so the front did'nt get a chance and I sold them on but they look great on other cars. I know what you mean about manky plates though, we had new ones on the Missus' A3 and it made the whole car look better.

    I know technically you are not allowed them, but there seem to be enough cars getting away with it (although I would always be nervous about it.....which is why I am leaning towatds the surrounds).

    Where did you get your surrounds from? They're nicer than the ones I was looking at.

    Cheers

    Cheers Jon.

    Also managed to find some without the Alpina logo on them, after clicking a million google links! The more I think about it, the more I will go down the legal plate route with some holders for piece of mind more than anything.

    To be honest I feel that genuine BMW plates with the dealer details on the bottom are quite classy looking- along with some number plate surrounds makes the car look fantastic!!
    Thats what I have legal and everything as well!!
    HID Conversion, M Power numberplate surrounds, Intravee II and Alpine KCA 420i linked to iPod, De badged, clayed, and polished to perfection!

    I want to keep it as legal as possible to save any issues.

    I did find a place that does road legal pressed plates.

    Think it will be some new, legal plates and some nice surrounds. First job though is to colour code the car and fit some black grills.
