    Folks

Anyone recommend where to get tins of the above for some touch up work. Is there a need to go to the dealer for a correct colour match (i.e. the 354) or can I get the correct match from wurth/ebay

    ta
    Will.

Have you thought about using CHIPEX ?

Their system gives great results and fills in the chip fully if you take your time and follow the directions. It hides chips far better than a touch up stick. Usually some deals on too if you look in his forum area

I had my paint made up by a specialist paint supplier but that didn't work. In the end I just used the titanium silver spray paint from Halfords and it was the best colour match. The problem lies in how you apply it. You have to put on very very very light coats and at least 12 inches away. It takes a while as quite a few coates need to be applied and at least 10 mins should be left btween coates. You need an environment without wind and out of the sun as well. Because you can't control the amount of spray that comes out of the tin you'll also find you get a bit of overspray on other parts of the car. You can tape it off but you'll probably find you will then have a spray line that is very noticeable.
If you spray too close or too thickly it will not match as the metallic bits in the paint will not match the metallic on the car. It also has to be feathered in to the cars paintwork which isn't as easy as it seems. It's a bit of a lottery to get right with rattle cans to be honest. Once you have applied the lacquer and left to dry for 24 hours or more it needs to be buffed with a very light cutting compound and polish to bring out the shine as it will look dull compared to the rest of the bodywork. Doing it by hand I found didn't work. I had to use a buffing machine.

I would keep away from Halfords rattle cans or touch up sticks. There are at least 4 shades of titan silver I know of from the factory production weeks and Halfords ones don't match any of them. Look at getting it from Paints4U or the place I use...LINK if you want to be close to precise.

You'd be hard pushed to tell where I'd resprayed my titanium silver car using Halfrauds rattle cans.

    Hi Will,

Ive tried using the halfords stone chip kit on my car (same colour as yours by the way, titan silver), its ok, but not a perfect match in my opinion. So Ive just ordered the chipex kit. As soon as it arrives and Ive tried it out i`ll let you know the results.
