    Any idea how I might fix or at least lessen the visual impact of this....its on the rear door handle of my E46

    Will.
    The best way would be to get a good door card and swop it but if you just want to lessen the visual/save money you could try this.....

    Carefully cut away any bits of the edge that stand proud of the surface.
    pick out a small ammount of the foam to go just under the edges.
    Fill with flexible over-paintable filler, the domestic door frame type stuff.
    you may need 2 fills as it may shrink.
    Ensure the fill is level.
    Mix some primer grey paint(primer will give a non-shiney finish) with a touch of black until you get a match for the grey of the handle, use artists brush to touch in the filler.
    Won't be perfect but will probably pass largely un-noticed.

    I just used what I had in the shed don't think brand matters much, so long as its flexible and overpaintable, so not silicone. Normally about £1.50 a tube so lets see when you read this 1/2 a euro
