Right then i am planning on giving the car a the clean of its life inside and out on saturday. The engine bay is ditched and never been cleaned so it looks a right mess.

So what is the best procedure and products to clean the engine bay?

Don't jet wash Nick...just use a good degreaser and hose down. Let dry and use something like AG vinyl and rubber to dress the engine.

I've never jet washed an engine before but I've always been told that if I do to leave the engine running throughout as the heat would dry out any water that got on electrical points. Personally that was enough to put me off jet washing altogether!!! Just thinking of what damage the pressure could cause to exposed and non-exposed wires sends a shiver down my spine.

Since my daughter arrived a couple of years ago though I always seem to have bloody baby wipes coming out of my ears but I must admit they work wonders on the interior of your car but also shift some of the most stubborn grease under your bonnet too! Baby wipes are like WD40. There's not much you can't do with them. . You do go through quite a few but the don't leave any streaks behind. I always have a pack in my boot now - damn I sound like an old 27yr old grand-dad wannabe

I strip mine down, remove as much as possible and lay it out on the ground in order/location, then I use a spray bottle with degreaser etc. in it, and work my way around the engine with a cloth, spraying a little and wiping down, much safer than jet washing and steaming etc...

I will use that stuff then and see how it goes. Hopefully it will make the car look like its done a lot less miles than it actually has.
