    i have a 1999 318 e46 saloon and have just fitted a performance exhaust.

it was second hand off ebay so wasnt expecting much but it sounds realy nice deep and throaty.

anyway, i find it sticks out a bit. all the hangers were already on the exhaust so it was just a case for the garage to cut the original one off and put this one on with a clamp.

because the hangers were already on, imo there is no way to fit the exhaust further down the car. as then it wouldnt fit.

i thought it might have been fitted to a m sport car or a facelift model?????

do these cars have bumpers that stick out a bit more than my original 1999 version.

as i now from owning one. a rover 200 bumper is more shallow that a rover 25 bumper.

    cheers andy

I have an M-Sport rear bumper on my 1999 323i and the depth is the same as the non M-Sport. M-Sport, facelift model or not the exhausts protrude the same.

i'm going to have to take it back then and ask them to sort something out.

one of my hates is seeing cars being driven around with half a scafolding pipe sticking out the back.

    sounds great though. dammit.!!!

i might get it up on my dads ramps sunday as i cant realy afford for them to mess around with it.

    118 tax sheeesh lol

There's been a few different style of rear bumpers between 1999-2006 though they are all roughly the same height give or take a few centimetres. They have to be as if they fall short of the exhaust they will look silly and if they fall way below the exhaust they'll also look odd.
