I have my door cards off my E39 - fixing some rattles etc.
The door foam has come away from the door - i understand this forms a seal to prevent water getting into the car.
I was going to clean it all up and glue them back on properly.
BUT if i get my windows tinted will these seals need to come off to get the windows out ? So would it be an idea to have the windows tinted now before i seal it all up and put the door cards back in ?
Most tint fitters apply the tint film without removing the glass, less hassle and to be honest you get the more or less the same finish just depends on how much experience they have.
as sham says, every tint fitter i have used leaves the glass in situe.
saves time and they get the same finish.
i would reattach the foam if i was you as the door cards should not be coming off
They leave just a tiny bit less than an inch extra film below the seals, they have plastic tools to push the seal away and thats why you won't be able to use your windows for 24 hours after the tint has been applied. This lets all the water out they can't squigee away below the seal :thumbsup
Yeah when I had the windows done on mine they just pulled the top of the door card away and put the tint behind, unless you are having the windows dipped, completely unecessary then they will just apply the film with them in place!
Must be a different setup on E39's then as pulling the door card back would achieve nothing. The interior widow seal is clipped onto the door itself.
